My Dreams

My Dream of living in another time and place:

If I could live in another time and place it would be England 1770-1850 of course I would have been a gentleman's' daughter, and I would like to have been a daughter of a wealthy gentleman, which means that my father would have owned a large estate. I would stay in the same birth order as I am now, the eldest. I would like to change my name to , Elizabeth, Emma, Isabella, Rosamond or Madeline.

Jane Austen would have been one of my closest friends, we would attend country balls together and share things that best friends share. (I never had a best friend growing up, so I don't know what that would be like - maybe that is the reason I didn't recognize one when they came into my life.) Jane of course would tell me about her writing and I would tell her about my walks and my thoughts and feelings.

I would love to wear a corset! Everything held in place - even if I couldn't breath, I think I would like it. Just think of all the dresses, but of course I would have a special pant dress made for me to ride, I don't think I could do the side saddle thing. Horses for me are one of the most beautiful creatures, one day I would like to capture their beauty in a photo, they are so powerful and graceful at the same time.

Jane would write a novel in which she would use me as a main character, it might be called Pride and Prejudice. Of course I would make sure that it had a happy ending, but not before I learned important lessons.  And of course meet Mr. Darcy!

Claire Welch, an author, said this about my best friend Jane, " She was in my view, before her time. Her ability to use satire and portray characters in a witty and engaging way is still as entertaining today as it was in her own time. Her novels are... just as relevant in terms of relationships and people's expectations of those relationships now as they were then."

She is my best friend, I take her everywhere with me, she is even on my IPod. I have all of her novels, none autographed.  I am grateful for the stories that she has told, we all tell ourselves stories, some of the stories we tell ourselves follow the story so it becomes almost real - others well they remain dreams.

My Dream Job

If I could do anything I wanted it would be to own my own Bed and Breakfast.  I would call it,   "Heidi's Heartland".  I would have it built somewhere where it was pleasantly warm in the summer, it would have crisp air in the autumn, no snow - except for two weeks in December for Christmas and the spring would be not rainy just green and dewy in the mornings.  Not sure if there is a state, city or country for that matter that would qualify for my perfect spot for a B&B.

I would have farm fresh eggs, season fruit and make home made breads, rolls and breakfast breads! It would have some acreage - not to much, not to little - just the right amount! A small stream would flow through it into a small pond for fish and ducks. I would operate it 6 months out of the year saving the other 6 months to visit family and have friends visit.

This would be my little slice of Heaven on Earth - my Heartland!
